* We have received reports that fully cellular container ship, MSC SHANNON, experienced a fire in its engine room in the early hours of 07 November 2021 whilst in a position approximately 11 nautical miles south of Jussaro Island, Finland.

* It is reported that the crew were able to extinguish the fire without assistance from other vessels. Nevertheless, two patrol vessels have been deployed by the Finnish Coast Guard to assist the vessel if necessary.

* The vessel is currently anchored in a position south east of Hanko, Finland and we understand that the crew are attempting to effect repairs to enable the vessel to resume its voyage under its own power.

* Approximately 1,200 tonnes of cargo, including flammable liquids, and oxidising, corrosive, and toxic substances is stowed on board the vessel, although it is reported that none of this cargo was directly affected by the fire.

* Nevertheless, it is possible General Average and associated recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty.

* We recommend that you contact us if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we may start taking steps to protect your interests.
